I. Institution's strategy, objectives and priorities for its Erasmus activities.
The mission of Zagreb school of Economics and Management is to transfer values, knowledge, and skills that students need for long-term success in a globalized business world undergoing constant technological and market transformations.
In order to achieve goals in transferring values, knowledge, and skills, our faculty members offer intellectual contributions, primarily discipline-based, but also contributions to teaching and practice.
We are dedicated to offer high quality programs to students at the undergraduate and graduate level.
The objectives set by our mission will be fulfilled through our educational program, in such a way that our students will learn and develop:
- values of ethical and socially responsible business practices,
- knowledge from the field of economics and business administration,
- skills necessary for conducting business globally and adapting to technological and market changes.
Strategy and objectives are related to the Erasmus activities:
ZSEM is member of AACSB, and it is in the process of full accreditation. Our objective is to prepare the institution to pass all the high standards required by this international accreditation association.
Erasmus programs support our mission and vision in many aspects but specially to prepare our students to understand and learn from other cultures and practices and to keep the international standards that ZSEM has since the beginning. Erasmus can stimulate the intellectual exchange in research and joint activities among our professors and faculty members in other European universities.
Our strategy at ZSEM is to stimulate mobility of students and professors. We have signed more than 50 academic agreements world wide, 25 of them with other European institutions of higher education. In order to offer equal possibilities to study in any European country considered in ERASMUS, we have the objective to sign at least one agreement of cooperation with leader institutions in each mentioned countries.
ZSEM offers four year undergraduate study program in economics and management (240 ECTS points) and one year specialized professional MBA graduate program (60 ECTS points). We are offering the master in Marketing and Finance completely in English and enough courses in English in the bachelor program in order to be able to receive international students. We have the objective to internationalize the master in Management in the near future.
Knowledge centers at ZSEM continually organize seminars and conferences in order to stimulate exchange and development of insights among Croatia and foreign experts. Erasmus is going to make it easier. ZSEM also offers top rated programs for professional development in the fields of management, marketing, finance, banking and related topics, called Executive Education. We are confident that Erasmus is also going to drive forward these programs.
II. Actions planned to give visibility to Erasmus activities
To promote Erasmus mobility among students and professors, we are communicating through e-mailing, posters, brochures, testimonials (publicity) and presentations. We are communicating our programs among our partners frequently in order to attract their students in exchange basis.
III. Non-discrimination policy
Candidates to study at ZSEM can come from any racial origin, religious beliefs or any political orientation. All of them have the same opportunities to be accepted and the same rights upon inscription. We are doing an effort to transmit values of respect, team working, friendship, quality, honesty, tolerance and other important values among our students. We also have a written code of conduct to ensure respect and tolerance, and we look after its fulfillment with specific sanction.
IV. Quality of academic mobility activities
ZSEM has developed its programs with Bologna Declaration implementing the ECTS system. There is a coordinator for each year of studies, who has the role of providing assistance in two-way communication between professors and students. Coordinators together with International Office staff offer counseling to outgoing and incoming students about curricula and related matters. The credits obtained by the students are transferred to their home institutions at the end of the courses.
The working languages are Croatian and English. The School offers a wide range of elective subjects, including Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Italian and Spanish languages. ZSEM offers also Croatian language courses for international students and a course of Croatian culture to make the integration and comprehension of the Croatian society easier. We assist international students to find accommodation in private apartments accordingly to their needs.
We are technology friendly. All courses are accessible through WebCT platform which is altogether intended to facilitate communication between professors, the administration and students.
Students and lecturers jointly analyze and discuss concrete cases, exchanging opinions and experiences and creating solutions that correspond to actual business decisions. Currently, one of the must modern methods of learning that ZSEM uses is the simulation method.
Course literature includes the world´s best textbooks which are provided for students by MATE, the publishing house from Zagreb, one of the co-founders of the School.
ZSEM has a mentorship program in which first-year students (freshmen) as well as international students receive a successful higher-year student as their personal mentor in order to help them successfully integrate into ZSEM´s system of studies.
There is a student sport association which promotes wide range of competition and recreational sports activities.
V. Quality of student placement activities
The Career Center at ZSEM assists students in locating possibilities for practical training through permanent and temporary employment. ZSEM through Career Center and Executive Education departments has developed collaboration with many successful managers and companies in public and private sectors.
The common goal is to link firms and students for mutual benefit. Students can find flexible jobs that provide them with financial support during their studies. Additionally students can develop their capabilities, skills, tools and techniques in business through these employment opportunities.
ZSEM´s program specifies that students, during their studies, must complete two periods of practice training, lasting at least one month each one. Students select firms either directly or with the aid of ZSEM Career Center. ZSEM also offers students the possibility to complete their practice training abroad. The students have a mentor who specifies the objectives, helps them and evaluate their work.
These internships are monitored, evaluated and graded.
